Job Description:

The Director, Distribution Compensation Services, provides strategic and operational leadership to deliver industry leading compensation services to multiple Business Units. This role leads several teams that are responsible for the administration of the compensation program as well as the contracting and licensing process.  The Director will provide leadership and guidance for these areas to deliver exceptional service in a timely and professional manner.

The Director is also responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with many key business partners and stakeholders, which includes other teams within Sun Life, MGAs and Advisors. The Director will also get involved in initiatives that impact Distribution Compensation Services and support the development and execution of a digital transformation.

This position will have 3-5 direct reports, about 40 in-direct reports, and will report to the AVP, Distribution Compensation Services.

What will you do?

  • Overall administration of the compensation programs, ensuring timely and accurate calculations and payment of commissions
  • Overall administration of the contracting, life licensing and mutual fund registration of advisors and management teams
  • Works on complex situations and escalations with members of the team and various business partners to provide exceptional service
  • Supports the evolution of our management operating system, creating the framework and tools required for the team to exceed client expectations
  • Ensuring the team is engaged and skilled to meet the operational targets that have been established
  • Working with the team to identify, develop and implement continuous improvements
  • Provide leadership and support execution of a digital transformation
  • Ensure all teams and processes are followed and adhering to all compliance, regulatory and audit requirements
  • Accountable for results as measured by client and employee satisfaction, service metrics and expenses relative to budget

What do you need to succeed?

  • Exceptional people and talent development skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate both internally and externally
  • Proven experience leading in an operational service with a track record of managing partner satisfaction
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate client and business requests or potential issues and proactively addressing them
  • Extensive operations expertise coupled with experience leading operational technology and process transformation
  • Bilingualism (French, English) required- interactions with English-speaking customers or partners
  • Strong partnership and relationship building skills with ability to work effectively with leaders across the organization, as well as external partners, vendors, advisors, and firms
  • Knowledge of Continuous Process Improvement methodology, in particular Lean management techniques and Six Sigma tools
  • A strong track record in delivering data, analytics, and automation solutions driving operational outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced and continuously changing environment

  • Knowledge of distribution compensation programs

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
