Job Description:
Sun Life’s Mobile Centre of Excellence (MCoE) is looking for a Senior Android Developer to join our dynamic and diverse team. MCoE’s mission is to create, develop and maintain first-class native mobile apps on Android for our clients, helping them achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.
We are a multi-site team (Montréal, Toronto, Waterloo, and Gurgaon, India) that values communication, collaboration, transparency, and integrity.
What you will do:
As a Senior Android Developer, you will be joining one of our agile teams.

Design and develop high-quality, secure, and reliable Android applications that provide seamless access to our financial services

Collaborate and act as technical reference within the mobile team, mentor junior developers and provide guidance on technical solutions and best practices

Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including Scrum Masters, Mobile Developers, Business System Analysts, User Experience architects and Testing Specialists to define and deliver new features and enhancements

Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to release and maintenance

Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards

Write unit and integration tests to ensure high-quality and reliable code

Identify and troubleshoot application issues and provide timely resolutions

Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies, trends, and best practices in Android development and apply them to our applications
What you need to succeed:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent education/experience
-
5+ years of experience with native mobile development on Android, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality applications
-
Extensive experience with Java, Kotlin, Android Studio, and Android SDK
-
1+ year experience in Agile/Scrum framework
-
Experience with DevOps practices and tools, such as continuous integration and deployment, version control, and automated testing.

Ability to write clean and scalable code in Kotlin and Java, respecting SOLID principles.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex issues

Experience in creating and releasing complex Android Apps to the Play Store

REST / SOAP or any other Web API standards, knowledge of JSON / XML formats

Familiar with Test Driven Development (TDD) and ability to write Unit, Integration and Espresso (UI) tests.

Understanding of security principles and best practices in Android development, including secure data storage, encryption, and authentication. Experience with security-related libraries and frameworks is a plus.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Preferred skills

Knowledge of common Android design patterns (VIPER, MVVM)

Knowledge of RxJava/RXKotlin, Coroutines, Fragment-to-Fragment through interfaces

Knowledge of DevOps tools : Jenkins, Splunk, Artifactory

Experience with backend development

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
