Job Purpose: In 2017, the Government of Canada awarded Thales In-Service Support (ISS), refit, repair, maintenance and training to both Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) and Joint Support Ships (JSS).

Known as AJISS, the contract includes an initial service period of eight years for up to $800 million CAD with options to extend services up to 35 years, for a total value of $5.2 billion CAD, making it the largest ISS contract in Canadian history.

The AJISS program will allow Thales to leverage its Canadian expertise in project management, systems engineering and integrated logistics support to lead the development of a new Canadian supply chain that will offer comprehensive in-service support for all systems and equipment of these fleets over their operational lifetime, ensuring they are mission-ready, on time, every time, from coast to coast to coast.

To support the execution of this exciting program, Thales Canada Defense and Security is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join its AJISS team.

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the technical support of Electrical Systems on the AOPS and JSS platforms, including but not limited to Marine Electrical Power Generation and Distribution Systems, Electric Propulsion Systems, Combat and Communication Systems.

This consists of overseeing and executing engineering tasks within time and cost constraints to meet the Key Performance Indicators in accordance with Thales quality and commercial guidelines.

Key Job Functions: Perform design tasks and analyses appropriate to individual’s experience and specialized knowledge within the engineering discipline Ensure that design products comply with the technical requirements of the task and are performed within the allocated cost and schedule Plan operations and or processes required to complete allocated design tasks, including estimation of requirements of staffing, material costs and quantities Understand technical, commercial and legal implications of actions and respond accordingly Ensure knowledge of quality concepts, standards, systems and programs and their importance to the organizations success Understand all technical aspects of the job to achieve best results Performs system engineering activities required to develop a solution or product including; Managing (planning, organizing, leading and controlling) the function and staff assigned to achieve the agreed outcomes within the delegated authorities and responsibilities Providing the appropriate direction, coaching, support and delegation to individual team members and the whole team to enable them to achieve the work objectives Fostering team work in the direct area of responsibility and with other teams across the program Providing technical advice to enable Marine Electrical and Combat System equipment and/or systems to be correctly operated or maintained Conducting technical investigations into problems associated with Marine Electrical and Combat System equipment and/or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development Analyzing requirements associated with baseline changes to product In conjunction with the Technical Data Management team, manage the preparation of Marine Electrical and Combat System related engineering design change documentation including manufacturing drawings, installation instructions and test and trials documentation Investigating and formulating plans to deal with equipment obsolescence issues Analyzing Marine Electrical and Combat System engineering tasks and assessing resource and schedule requirements Preparing documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers Preparing Task Plans and cost estimates for Customer approval Implementing the Task Plan, using Engineering Task Sheets to assign work to internal resources Coordinating the preparation and transfer of necessary information and/or product required by external resources Analyze the customer’s and other stakeholders’ needs Describe the missions, functions and requirements on the solution or the product Formalize the specification and the architectural design to develop the solution or product Prepare and perform the solution or product integration, verification and validation tests Conducting engineering tasks, including: Requirements analysis, design calculations, Obsolescence assessments, performance improvement investigations, review and development of equipment/system maintenance documentation, failure analysis and risk/hazard assessments Key Skill Requirements: All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and meet Controlled Goods Clearance requirements and Canadian security clearance Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field 5 years post graduate industrial experience or 7 years of relevant industrial experience Experience in High Voltage Electrical Generation & Distribution is desirable P.

Eng certification is an asset Previous experience in defense industry and project management setting is an asset.
